What do I mean by ADVANCED ?
I teach my students beyond the basic level – not just how to play.
I teach my student to understand music in context of their own lives and feelings. Kids relate to the music
they play and that is why they love to play it. Whenever we do something with love (and a good, knowledgeable
teacher), our progress in developing new skills is fast. Students become advanced.
I teach music history and music literature in the context of music the students play. They will understand the
difference between all the musical eras (baroque, classical, romantic, and modern), learn why the music is different
and how much fun it is to connect with Bach who lived 400 years ago or Beethoven who lived 200 years ago; they will
understand and enjoy what these and many other composers shared with us.
When understand something and enjoy it, we learn it faster and become advanced in the subject.
My goal as a teacher is to meet my students where they are and help them advance and succeed.
